A ground-breaking programme supporting young people on probation has delivered outstanding early results, with 50% of participants moving directly into employment and 100% achieving their CSCS qualification.

The ‘Skills For Success’ course is a joint initiative between GLA Group and MENTA, designed to upskill 18–24-year-olds who are furthest from the labour market. The three-week course covers three key areas: Labouring Training, CSCS Preparation and Testing, and Entrepreneurial Workshops.
GLA Group delivers the Labouring and CSCS components of the programme, providing participants with practical, industry-ready training in manual handling, working at heights, ladder and asbestos awareness, and workplace task planning. These foundational skills prepare learners for roles in sectors such as construction, warehousing, agriculture, and logistics.
Week two builds on this with full CSCS training and a paper-based test—resulting in a 100% pass rate among the first group.
In the final week, MENTA delivers tailored workshops in self-employment, business start-up skills, and financial awareness—broadening career options and encouraging entrepreneurial thinking.
This innovative partnership demonstrates how targeted support, skills training, and mentoring can break down barriers and build brighter futures.
“GLA is proud to deliver the Labouring and CSCS aspects of the Skills For Success course, which are helping young people gain real, employable skills and nationally recognised qualifications. To see 50% of our first learners go straight into work is a powerful reminder of how much potential these young people have when given the chance.”– Andy Bird, Head of Learning, GLA Group
