Roofing Courses
Our roofing programmes are designed to meet the growing demand for skilled tradespeople in one of the UK’s most in-demand construction sectors. Flat roofing courses are delivered jointly with SikaUK and can lead to further qualifications through Sika’s Approved Contractor Network.
Pitched Roofing
Trainees learn how to install concrete interlocking tiles, plain tiles and natural slates using industry-recognised techniques. The course covers traditional sand and cement mortar detailing, as well as modern dry-fix systems used across all areas of tiling and slating. With strong demand for skilled tilers and slaters, this course supports excellent progression into industry.
Single Ply Flat Roofing
Delivered in partnership with SikaUK, this course introduces one of the most widely used modern roofing systems. Trainees learn to install single ply PVC membranes using hot air welding, mechanical fixings and adhesives. This lightweight, durable system is used in a range of commercial and residential builds and offers solid employment opportunities.
Liquid Applied Flat Roofing
In collaboration with SikaUK, this course trains learners to apply a cold-applied liquid waterproofing system using a wet-on-wet method and polyester fabric. This fast-curing system requires no heat or power tools and is suited to complex detailing, refurbishments and new builds. Liquid roofing is a growing sector with demand for skilled applicators.
Bitumen Self-Adhesive Flat Roofing
Delivered with SikaUK, this course introduces the installation of bitumen-based self-adhesive roofing systems. Trainees learn to handle and apply rolls safely, create overlaps and seal junctions without the use of heat. This low-risk, durable method is ideal for projects where hot works are restricted and offers a versatile route into flat roofing roles.
Sustainability & Green Initiatives
GLA is one of the only providers offering dedicated training for construction labourers. The role is essential to every site, requiring organisation, communication and safety awareness.
Solar PV Installation
This course introduces learners to both retrofit and in-roof solar photovoltaic systems. Trainees gain an understanding of how solar panels capture energy and how they are safely installed as part of a domestic or commercial setup. This is a growing area of construction with demand for installers.
Insulation Systems
Learners are introduced to the safe and effective installation of key insulation materials, including Rollbatt, PIR, Multifoil and Tapered systems. The course covers correct fitting techniques, thermal performance and materials handling; essential skills for energy-efficient construction.
Living Roofs
This course provides an overview of green, brown and blue roof systems. Learners explore how these living roofs are constructed, the environmental benefits they provide and their growing role in sustainable building design.

Labouring & Safety Courses
Manual Handling
This course provides learners with safe lifting techniques, an understanding of injury prevention and relevant legislation. It prepares them to carry out manual tasks confidently and safely in the workplace.
Working at Heights
Learners explore the key risks of working at height and how to work safely on flat, pitched and fragile roofs. The course includes fall prevention techniques and safe access systems. A vital foundation for roofing and site-based roles.
Asbestos Awareness
This course teaches learners how to identify asbestos-containing materials and reduce the risk of exposure. It is suitable for anyone working on refurbishment, demolition or general construction projects.
Ladder Safety
This course covers the safe use of ladders, including correct selection, inspection and usage practices.
It is ideal for general labourers, roofing assistants and anyone working at height on-site.
