Four GLA Group trainers recently completed the Liquid Applied Flat Roofing course at Sika UK’s training centre in Preston, led by training manager Paul Mahon and supported by Mark Dunn FCIOB. The course equips trainers with up-to-date, industry-recognised skills that will now be passed on to learners across the UK prison estate.
Delivered as part of a Train the Trainer initiative, the programme is a key step in expanding access to high-quality roofing education. With this knowledge, GLA will deliver Liquid Applied Roofing training in custodial settings, opening up opportunities for ex-offenders to gain valuable skills and pursue further Sika-accredited courses in Single Ply and Self-Adhesive Felt Roofing upon release.
“It’s a great initiative and GLA are proud to collaborate with Sika who’s on-going support will get people trained and into work.”— Andy Bird, Director, GLA Group
“Sika is proud to be supporting this initiative, providing these opportunities will not only help to reduce re-offending but also contribute to enhancing the skills gap within the UK roofing sector.”— Sika UK
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to both rehabilitation and workforce development. GLA and Sika are helping more people take the next step into employment and strengthening the future of the construction industry.
